How to use LiftLink
A quick guide for passengers and drivers.
LiftLink is a marketplace that connects passengers with independent drivers. Whether you need a ride or want to earn by driving, this guide will get you started in minutes.
For Passengers
1. Create an account
Tap Get started on the home screen and enter your name, email address, and a secure password. You will receive a confirmation before your account is activated.
2. Book a ride
- Tap Book a ride from the home screen or the main menu.
- Enter your pickup location — the app will suggest addresses as you type, or use your current GPS location.
- Enter your destination.
- Choose the number of passengers and set a fare offer — this is the amount you are willing to pay for the trip. Drivers in the area will see your offer and decide whether to accept.
- Tap Post ride request. Your request is sent to nearby drivers.
3. Waiting for a driver
Once your request is live, drivers in the area can accept it. You will receive a push notification when a driver accepts. The driver's first name, vehicle details (make, model, colour, and licence plate), and live location will appear on your map.
4. During the trip
- Track your driver on the live map until they arrive.
- Use the in-app chat to communicate with your driver if needed.
- The app records the trip for your safety.
5. Completing a trip
When you reach your destination, your driver marks the trip complete. You can then rate your driver and leave a review — honest ratings help keep the platform safe for everyone.
6. Payment
Payment is made directly to the driver. The fare was agreed before the trip began. LiftLink does not collect payment on your behalf unless an in-app payment feature has been enabled and disclosed.
For Drivers
1. Create an account and apply to drive
- Create a standard user account as described above.
- In the app, tap Become a Driver and complete the driver onboarding form.
- You will need to provide:
- A valid South African identity document or passport;
- A valid, unendorsed driver's licence (correct code for your vehicle);
- A Professional Driver's Permit (PrDP) if required by law;
- Proof of motor vehicle insurance with passenger liability cover;
- Your vehicle licence disc;
- A clear selfie photo for identity verification.
- Your application will be reviewed. You will be notified once approved.
2. Subscribe to receive ride requests
An active monthly subscription is required to view and accept passenger ride requests. Subscribe via Google Play from within the app. The subscription fee is clearly shown before purchase.
3. Going online
Once approved and subscribed, tap Go online from the driver dashboard. You must grant location permission so that the app can detect your position and show you nearby ride requests.
4. Accepting ride requests
Ride requests from passengers near you appear on your screen. Each request shows the pickup location, destination, passenger count, and the fare offered. You are free to accept or decline any request — there is no obligation to accept.
When you accept, the passenger receives your details and can track your arrival on the map.
5. During the trip
- Navigate to the pickup point and arrive promptly.
- Confirm the trip has started in the app when the passenger gets in.
- Mark the trip complete when you reach the destination.
6. Payment and earnings
The passenger pays you directly at the agreed fare. LiftLink does not take a commission or handle payment on your behalf (unless a specific in-app feature is enabled). Your earnings are entirely yours, minus your monthly subscription fee.
7. Ratings
After each trip, passengers can rate you. Maintain a high rating by being punctual, safe, and professional. Accounts with persistently low ratings or reports of unsafe conduct may be suspended.
